Ultimate Sensitivity with Isocam
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss the instrumental factors which constrain the sensitivity limits of the mid-infrared camera (ISOCAM) of ESA's Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The observing strategy judged to be best suited to faint-source detection is described. A data analysis technique adapted to the extraction of the faintest point-sources is discussed. We report the application of these techniques to an extremely deep mid-IR observation of high redshift gravitationally lensed objects, in two lters, looking through a lensing galaxy cluster.

An ISOCAM Mid-IR Survey through Gravitationally Lensing Galaxy Clusters
We present imaging results and source counts from a deep ISOCAM cosmological survey at 15μm, through gravitationally lensing galaxy clusters. We take advantage of the cluster gravitational amplification to increase the sensitivity of our survey. We detect a large number of luminous mid-IR sources behind the cluster lenses, down to very faint fluxes, which would have been unreachable without the...
متن کاملFirst results from the ISOCAM parallel mode
We present first results of a survey being made in a broad-band 6.75 m filter using the ISOCAM infrared camera in its parallel mode at 6" resolution. So far we have analysed a sky area of 1:375 deg2 down to a limiting flux of 5 mJy and detected a total of 287 objects. The final survey will cover a sky area of 33 deg2, most of which will be done in staring mode, to which we have restricted ourse...
متن کاملThe Isocam/lw Detector Dark Current Behaviour
We describe the calibration, measurements and data reduction, of the dark current of the ISOCAM/LW detector. We point-out the existence of two significant drifts of the LW dark-current, one throughout the ISO mission, on a timescale of days, another within each single revolution, on a timescale of hours. We also show the existence of a dependence of the dark current on the temperature of the IS...
متن کاملISOCAM observations of the Hubble Deep Field reduced with the PRETI method
We have developed a new ISOCAM data reduction technique based on wavelet analysis, especially designed for the detection of faint sources in mid-infrared surveys. This method, the Pattern REcognition Technique for Isocam data (PRETI) has been used to reduce the observations of the Hubble Deep Field (HDF) and flanking fields with ISOCAM at 6.75 (LW2) and 15 μm (LW3) (Rowan-Robinson et al. 1997)....
متن کاملA Deep and Ultra-deep Isocam Cosmological Survey through Gravitationally Lensing Clusters of Galaxies
We present imaging results and source counts from an ISOCAM deep and ultra-deep cosmological survey through gravitationally lensing clusters of galaxies at 7μm and 15μm. A total area of about 53 sq.arcmin was covered in maps of three clusters. The lensing increases the sensitivity of the survey. A large number of luminous mid-infrared (MIR) sources were detected behind the lenses, and most coul...
